Yesterday I experimented a little with my breakfast. I had a lot of leftover rice in the fridge that I wanted to get rid of… I often make too much of things like grans and beans, and they end up going bad. Anyway, I decided to try making a breakfast cookie with rice!

- 1/3 cup cooked brown rice
- 1/2 scoop vanilla protein powder
- 1/2 banana
- 2 T skim milk
- 1 T PB2
- toppings: cinnamon, dried apricots, dried cherries, 1 walnut
This was actually pretty good! It ended up being a lot creamier than the cookies made with oats. I would definitely make it again… don’t you love coming up with new uses for leftovers?
I ended up making it to my yoga class just in time, with only enough time to stash my stuff in a locker. I did a 60 minute Vinyasa flow… I was definitely rusty, but it felt great to get back into it again. The class was a little unconventional… the instructor played lots of music, like L7 and Ella Fitzgerald. I really want to start taking more yoga classes. This may be a steep goal for me, in terms of time, but I would love to be able to go to a class at least once a week. Yogadownload.com is great, but a class is such a different experience.
I was pretty hungry after class, so I picked up an apple at a fruit stand on the street.

After I showered and made myself presentable, I met Caitlin for lunch at Chelsea Market. I don’t know how it’s possible, but I’d never been there before! It’s a big arcade-style collection of specialty food shops, cafés and bakeries; each place, like the Ronnybrook Milk Bar, is very “New York” in its nature. After we looked around at everything (a terrible thing to do when you’re hungry!) we settled on Amy’s Bread.

I’d been to their Hell’s Kitchen location before, and my dad used to pick up their olive and chocolate twists on the way home from work, but it had been a while. Everything looked incredible!

It was hard to decide what I wanted, but I ended up going with a salad. This had romaine, avocado, cannelini beans, roasted tomato and zucchini, toasted sunflower and pumpkin seeds, and a lemon vinaigrette.

It came with an olive roll.

It was a perfect lunch.

When we finished, we set off in search of dessert. Hooray for Thursday Treat Day! First, we went to Eleni’s, a picture-perfect cookie and cupcake shop.

Their cookies looked too pretty to eat…

… and their cupcakes were GORGEOUS. (See those Obama cookies?!)

I decided that one dessert was not enough for me, so I got one of their “Petit Sin” brownie bites with walnuts. Caitlin got a beautiful chocolate cupcake with white buttercream… they made a funny picture next to each other!

It must have been fate that we ended up at Eleni’s, because they were selling a Manhattan Cupcake sampler pack

Next up, we went to Fat Witch Bakery for brownie samples.

Caitlin has raved about these brownies for years, so I was really excited to try them! They were pretty good, but I think my Eleni’s bite was a little better. And I’m going to be a bit of a snob here and say that the brownies my mom and I make are pretty hard to beat!

My next and final dessert stop was at L’Arte del Gelato.

I was really full at this point, but thought that I should have gelato. Riddle me that!

I got a cup with 1/2 peach sorbetto and 1/2 chocolate hazelnut. This was amazing! The peach sorbetto was fat-free, and so full of flavor.

We finally left Chelsea Market and walked up to the High Line to move a little and check out the new site which just opened on June 9.

We’re going to picnic up here next time.

Can’t you just see Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte and Miranda lounging on these chic chaises?

Eventually I had to leave for work, so I walked across town to the East Side to the restaurant. While there, I snacked on a Maple Nut Clif Bar. Love these!

The restaurant was pretty slow last night… I was able to leave at 9, though. I made a decent amount of money for the time I was there, and got to watch Project Runway! Do you watch the show? What did you think? Do you have any favorite designers so far?
I took my dinner to go last night. Ramon made me a mixed green salad with walnuts, beets, Italian tuna (!), oranges, and Bufala mozzarella. I added a little hummus to it at home… it may sound strange, but tuna + hummus is a great combination!

I made a BIG yogurt bowl for dessert with nonfat plain, a peach from the Farmer’s Market, peanut butter and cinnamon.

I ate a little more than usual yesterday and was pretty much in a constant state of full-ness since lunch. I still woke up hungry for breakfast this morning, though!
Hope your Friday is off to a great start. Have a lovely day!

Chelsea Market is such a fun place! I agree with you on the Fat Witch brownies, my friend raved and raved about them but I wasn’t super impressed. I guess us food bloggers are tough critics;) L’Arte del Gelato is soooo good, though not as good as our Grom! The Highline looks really pretty, I have to go check it out.
You are totally right, by the way, hummus and tuna are a great combo. Whenever I make tuna salad I always use hummus instead of mayonnaise, delish!
how fun!!!! I love the desserts, and wouldn’t have been able to stop at just two!
Gorgeous schweets!
My folks and I love watching PR – can’t wait to see more of this season.
ENJOY YOUR WEEKEND!!!!
Those cookies are too cute for words!!
Um… those chaises actually look really uncomfortable, if you ask me…
<3 <3
what a fun day! all those desserts look so good. we seriously need a gelato and froyo place here.
OOH the TREATS! I haven’t been to Fat Witch, but I have made their pumpkin-chocolate chip brownie recipe and it’s da BOMB. Eleni’s cookies, however, did not impress me–too pretty to eat is pretty much right! Knowing they have good brownies/cupcakes is intriguing, though…
Dang. Now I want delicious baked goods. And a trip to the High Line!
YAY for three days off and a red headed friend coming home!
Amy’s bread and all of those treats look right up my alley! What a delicious day!!
I DVR’d PR so once I watch it, I’ll share my thoughts
So glad you slept in! I bet it felt fabulous!! I have a sleep in day planned for Sunday and I cannot wait. Yummy lunch at the market. That salad looks divine. Hope you had a nice weekend- enjoy your time off
The cupcakes and cookies are making me drool. Oh my goodness. And, my sister and I have been wanting to order Fat Witch brownies for a long time, but we have not yet. I hear ya about being a bit of a brownie snob…my mama’s brownies are hard to beat!!!
Have a fun Friday!!
SO much goodness in this post!
I like the brown rice cookie idea – I bet sweet rice is really good.
I agree with you re: yoga classes. home practice is great, but nothing beats a studio class.
Um, HELLO sugar porn! Those treats look incredible. We are def. hitting that place up the next time I’m in NYC. The High Line too- I haven’t been there yet, but it’s been all over the news. Very cool.
Thanks for all the shout-outs, Katie-kins! I can’t wait to go back with you! And I agree about Fat Witch, too. My Mom’s are better. (We should have a momma-bake-off.) I think as a youngn my palette wasn’t as sophisticated, thus the fat witch obsession, hahah.
I of course loved Project Runway, but wasn’t impressed with anybody yet. Although I was shocked that they outted Ari – yes, totally bizarre, but they normally keep on the weirdos for good ratings…hmm
wow. CUTEST food day ever. Everything looks adorable.
I’m about to watch Project Runway on the Internetz, because we don’t have a TV. I’m so excited!
Tuna and hummus doesn’t sound like a bad combination at all! I’ve heard of tuna salad with hummus so your pairing is along the same vein.
Both salads look good. That Olive Bread also looks amazing! I love tuna and hummus together!
I LOVE Chelsea Market! Ah, Fat Witch Brownies… I just love how they do their packaging. I’ve never tried them (or you and your mom’s) but they are cute! Tuna and hummus sounds really good to me. One of my favourite sandwiches is turkey, hummus, alfalfa sprouts and tomato…
Just found your blog! Loving it. Chelsea Market looks amazing! Those cookies are ridiculous!
OBAMA COOKIES! I LOVE THEM! I’ve always wanted to eat his face
Wow, that salad looks phenom, especially with the olive roll!
Looks like you had a great time…have a good weekend!
This post made me haphaphappy!! I am not sure if it’s Obama in the form of a cookie, dessert shopping, or just you in general!
YAY for spending time with friends! And YAY for SATC references!
all of your eats look delish! I love all the desserts…especially the obama cookies!
how cute! i didnt know about the chelsea market either! i have to get out to the high line soon, it looks awesome. and yes, those lounge chairs are SUCH a SATC type scene. next movie for sure.
[...] told myself before going in that I wasn’t going to let myself order chocolate hazelnut… whenever it’s on the menu, I order it! But… it looked good. It was a lot more chocolate-y than [...]
These all YouTube playing for money videos are actually in profitable trait, I watched out all these along by method of my mates.
