How do you wake up in the morning? Alarm clock? Clock radio? Phone ringer? Or do you just naturally wake up at the time you need to?  I’m an alarm kind of girl, although I use the one on my phone.  I put it in a different place last night and although it supposedly went off, I woke up waaaaay too late this morning and jumped out of bed, threw on some clothes (which remarkably  matched), and got ready to go in hyperspeed.  I didn’t have time to make coffee, but I did throw some breakfast in my purse: granola + honey-flavored Oikos.

Luckily I was only a little late to work, and if it had to happen, the week between Christmas and New Year’s was the time to do it.  I worked through the morning, then, when I found out my lunch date was canceled, ordered lunch from Free Foods NYC, Matthew Kenney’s eat-in/take-out deli/café in Midtown.  I ate there once before and loved it; lucky for me, they deliver! The only downside is it’s a little pricey.

When my meal arrived, the deliveryman called up from downstairs.  Easy peasy!

My salad had arugula, barbecued tempeh, spiced mangoes, grilled vegetables, roasted beets w/ orange zest, goat gouda (!!!) and pear cider vinaigrette. I asked for a whole grain roll and instead got a hunk of baguette, which was still good even if it wasn’t quite what I’d wanted.  I was happy to get to know some of my coworkers over lunch; we enjoyed a relaxed hour together in the conference room.

In the middle of the afternoon, when my energy was lagging and my tum was starting to growl, I reached into my snack drawer and pulled out a Cashew Cookie Larabar.  I should make these.

After work, I met Greg at Starbucks.  He’s visiting for the holidays, and it was so nice to see him!  In the last three days, I’ve been able to meet up three friends I haven’t seen in a while.  I love my life, but sometimes I don’t get to see the people I love as much as I’d like.

While we caught up, I sipped on a tall skim Vanilla Rooibos tea latte.

When I got home, I heated up the last of the Miso Soup with Salmon and Soba and watched an episode of Glee.  I love that show! I love when an actor is on two separate shows that I watch, concurrently, like Jayma Mays, who is also on Heroes.

I had ice cream with cardamom chocolate sauce for dessert… I’m going to to keep the brand and flavors a secret until I review them! Stay tuned :-)

While we finished Gone With The Wind (it only took 3 viewings!) I had a small glass of Luis Felipe Edwards’ Sauvignon Blanc.  I liked this wine! I think it’s the first Sauvignon Blanc from 2009 I’ve had.

Off to read in bed! Can’t wait to sleep in tomorrow, although I don’t want to waste the day.  I really appreciate my days off now.  How would you spend a vacation day?

Bonne nuit :-)

  • Maybe I already know the answer to this, because I don’t know how I missed it, but when did you get a job? And what kind of job is it? I remember you were looking… Anyways, congrats!

And to answer your question, if I have to get up for something my Mom wakes me up, or I just wake up on my own! lol

  • wow GREAT SALAD! that looks awesome!! i usually set 2 alarms on my phone if i have to get up early the next day :) its annoying..but useful!

  • Matthew Kearney’s restaurant looks like my kitchen (I wish!!!). Enjoy your day off tomorrow and YAY GLEE!!!

  • I love Glee! And that salad looks AMAZING. If I had a service like that available to me I think my wallet would definitely be hurting.

I set my alarm, but I’ve found that I automatically wake up a minute or two before it goes off. It’s only really annoying on the days when I can sleep in!

  • Free Foods sounds like such a cool place! Love your selections–BBQ tempeh and spiced mango sound like a killer combo.

  • I use the alarm on my phone, too! If I had a vacation day right now I would sleep late, go to the gym, and read all day long…

  • i love glee. is that jayma mays’ real voice on glee? its so weird. do you watch ugly betty, bc she used to be on that show too.

ps i use my phone alarm to wake up, and since its a POS, it explains why i wake up so startled. im always nervous it wont go off!

  • you know i do love your blog, but i just get so hungry! hehe. i hope all is well. i’ll be in nyc for new year’s. i’m excited. my bf is having a heart-attack because it says it’s going to snow during those 3 days. i told him it’ll be fun. what do you think? haha.

  • I use the alarm on my phone — it’s the only alarm that ever wakes me. I had an alarm clock that supposedly “wakes the dead,” but it didn’t wake me! That was a long time ago, though… now I usually wake up before my alarm, which is annoying since it rings at 5 AM!!

If I had a vacation day right now, it would involve going to the gym and getting a massage. Beyond that, who knows? Who cares?! ;)

I’m usually an alarm girl so I don’t sleep too late (you know my sleep issues!) but lately I’ve been getting up WAY before my alarm. Today I was up at 5:30! That salad sounds wonderful! I hope you enjoy your vacation day – do what you want to do, treat yourself :)

  • cardamom chocolate sauce?!?! ummm, i think i need to know what brand and what other flavors there are now :)

i have been totally sleeping past my alarm too (cell phone) – i think i might need to start using the trick of putting it across the room so it forces me to get up!

loving the salad + Starbucks date – enjoy your day off my dear!

  • GRIGGLES!!!
If you see him again, a hug and a high five from me!

I love your salad… If only I could have such things delivered to me at work. I might be able to manage the beets, but not much else, haha. :)

  • I set my phone to vibrate 3 times before the sound comes. I’ve only heard the sound a couple times! Those vibrations wake me right up.
