What’s your schedule?

This morning started a little rockily… I just could not get myself out of bed! I set my alarm early with high hopes of practicing yoga, but soon I had maxed out my Snooze-es and had to rush to get ready.  Not good.  I clearly haven’t found my 9-to-5 groove yet; I know there are so many of you out there who get to bed early, wake up and go to the gym before work, and get a lot done during the day itself.   What are your secrets?  I already make my lunch the night before (which takes a lot longer than it probably should), I lay out my clothes… I really haven’t been able to find the time (or the energy) to exercise regularly, and I’m suffering both physically and mentally.  What are your secrets for establishing a good schedule?

I had a quick breakfast of granola with a banana and skim milk.

Mid-morning I snacked on an apple; I saved my pumpkin yogurt (Stonyfield fat free plain yogurt + pumpkin puree + cinnamon) for after lunch.

I packed a stellar salad for lunch: mixed greens with 1/4 avocado, 1 orange, grape tomatoes, sesame tofu, almonds, and toasted seaweed.

Second try using a spice jar to carry my citrus salad dressing (leftover from the sushi bowl)… this time I just packed it right into my salad container.  No spillage!

After work, I met my friend Lisa for dinner at Blockheads, a Mexican(ish) restaurant that has several locations around the city.   Sorry about the dim lighting!

We started with festive drinks: she ordered their special, a frozen margarita with a tipped Corono.  It was surprisingly tasty!  I stuck to Negro Modelo, one of my favorite beers.

Blockheads steams their burritos (as opposed to frying the tortilla) and can make anything vegetarian.  They are also very accommodating about substitutions. I ordered a vegetable burrito in a whole wheat tortilla with brown rice, sautéed veggies, and plenty of hot sauce! I asked for tofu sour cream because I’d never tried it… I really liked it! I actually couldn’t tell whether it was real sour cream or not… I guess I eat a lot of ‘fu.  Lisa confirmed it was definitely not dairy.

Can you believe this was a mini burrito?! I was quite full when I finished!  It was delicious… I always forget how easy these types of dinners are to make at home.

When I got home, I had a Godiva chocolate-caramel-peanut cluster leftover from Christmas.  (A chocolate caramel sneaked out of the camera’s eye.)

My gym bag is packed, and I’m sleeping in my clothes to make sure I go to the gym tomorrow. My alarm is set for 6, and if I hustle, I’ll have enough time to get a decent workout in, shower, get to work on time, and not have to worry about it for the rest of the day.   To make that happen, my plan is to do a quick Lunar Flow and be in bed by 10:30.  It can be done!

  • That salad is to die for! It’s making me hungry again!

Good luck tomorrow morning! I struggle to get out of bed every day.

  • I love the idea of getting your workout checked off the list early in the day. Such an energizing feeling!

Pumpkin yogurt!! I swear by it! :D

  • Mmmmm…that burrito looks awesome! Good for you for asking for healthy substitutions…sometimes I get so embarrased doing stuff like that!

It’s hard to get on a regular schedule of any kind. When I used to get to the gym really early, I always felt great during the day, and I fell asleep easily and early. HOWEVER, it took quite a while to settle into it. Take heart–you’re still getting used to 9-5 MTWTHF. You’ll figure it out. any chance of getting your co-workers interested in lunchtime yoga?

  • I’ve never really been a morning person :? I usually have to be awake for a good hour or 2 before I can consider exercise. I’m not much of a help haha

  • the Godiva chocolate-caramel-peanut cluster leftover from Christmas woulda been long gone history in this casa :)

routine and schedule…just keep tryin til somethin sticks and flows, that’s all i can say.

enjoy your gym sesh in the a.m.

That Mexican dinner looks amazing – around here you get cheese, cheese, and more cheese with MAYBE a tomato. As far as routines go, honestly? I force myself into a routine. I may hate it the first week but then I get used to the new schedule.

  • mmm..we LOVE Modelo. that’s so cool that they steam the burritos! I’ve never heard of that.

Hmm…the only thing that’s helped get me out of bed lately is our puppy :)

  • adjusting to a new schedule is tough! but keep working at it and you will find your routine! To get myself to workout early in the morning I think about which scenario will make my body feel better… hitting snooze or getting up and working out..I almost always go with working out! Congrats on the new job and don’t be too hard on yourself..you will find a rhythm!! I hope u have a great weekend! xoxo!

  • That margarita looks fantastic!

  • it’s tough to get into a schedule, especially with a new job. but i find if you make a decision about how your day is going to go and stick with it, it gets easier and easier the more you do it.

i find that morning workouts just don’t work for me. i simply can’t do them as part of my everyday routine, so i work out after work and eat a late dinner. you just have to find what works for you!

I am having the SAME struggle! With work and classes every single day from 8-6, it’s so hard to fit in a set workout routine. I want so badly for it to be in the morning so I have five minutes to relax after my long day but I have yet to make it happen. Let me know if you discover anything magical and life-changing!

P.S. I lalalove your blog and read it every day! Your food combos are inspiring to my kitchen and it’s nice to know I’m not the ONLY one struggling to get my butt outta bed in the morning!

    Have an enchanted day! :)

  • I feel you on scheduling. I actually changed my work schedule from 9-5 to 7:30 to 4 so I could do my work out after work and not invade on dinner time or anything. I hate getting up and doing all that before work because it just leaves me exhausted.

  • Just stumbled upon your blog and I love it! You’re enthusiasm is contagious :)

  • I am still working on the schedule things. I like to go to the gym after work. So that means the gym bag has to be packed and in the car. All I know is I have to workout at least 3 times a week to feel good. Great salad! I would soo get that margarita :D Hope you make it to the gym!

  • heya Katie! your eats look fab. i love burritos and your salad is so colorful! it’s like summer in the depth of winter. what dressing did you use? im not a fan of the usual dressing but your citrus dressing sounds really good :) .
    have a lovely day!

  • oh wow that restaurant looks amazing. I would absolutely love eating there!!=) I hope you have a great time at the gym! Thats usually the time I go and it is really nice to get up and get it over with! I hope you have a great weekend!

  • Hey girly! That restaurant looks incredible. I love love that they steam the burritos. How delicious and healthy. Your lunch salad looks totally professional too. In terms of the gym, I think you have to do something you enjoy/love in order to go. For me, I take other group fitness classes when I’m not teaching. Its a fun outing to go and learn a routine and work hard with a bundle of others.

your salads are soo creative! love all the healthy things you bring to work :)

    yum im craving chipotle now

  • I am having a hard time staying on schedule right now!! Everything is changing: friends and the boy leaving, bro coming home, not having a structured class (but an independent study). My life is crazy right now………or so it feels!! I haven’t done Pilates in about 3 weeks and I feel guilty about that too! OY. I just have told myself that seeing the boy is a priority right now, since I’m not sure when I will get to again!!

gluck tomorrow! you can doooooooooooooooo it!

    and yes, GCHAT ME ANYTIME.

  • OMG! I’m a schedule-aholic! Perhaps I should email you so we can discuss further!

  • [...] After work, I met Lisa for dinner at Blockheads.  I think this is our new spot! [...]
