My final verdict on these bars: I like them. I like the taste and nutrition profile, the size, and the price. I do not like how easily they mush up and stick to the wrapper; my snacks go through a lot in my purse and need to stand up to the commuter’s lifestyle! But all in all, I would buy these again.
I packed this sad looking “lunch” in my rush this morning…
…but it was worth it to enjoy a spontaneous bagel breakfast with Ari.
I got my mojo back with tonight’s dinner, however, when I made Heidi Swanson’s Chopped Miso Salad. Sweet lordy. This may look simple, but it was an explosion of flavors in my mouth. I’m pretty certain this woman can do no wrong.
I made a few changes to the recipe:
- subbed 2 small onions in place of shallots, red onion and chives
- subbed 1/2 cup mixed nuts (walnuts, peanuts, almonds) in place of 1 cup almonds
- subbed coconut oil for olive oil
- omitted the sesame oil to maintain the integrity of the coconut
Not that I was on the fence about coconut oil, but I’m pretty sure I’m going to have to start buying the stuff in bulk. I’ve only used it for a few recipes, but the combination of miso + coconut is amazing. (I may or may not have licked the bowl that I made the dressing in.)
I enjoyed my salad with a side of steamed kale topped with extra dressing and steamed carrots. The only thing left to make this dinner truly perfect?
The last of the apple cake. Finger lickin’ good.
I’m off to wind down for the night so I can wake up for my 7 miler tomorrow. I ran 1.8 today with only a little knee pain at the end, so fingers crossed!
How do you make time for the things- and people- you love each day?
Have a great night, and check in tomorrow… there just may be a giveaway

Yum! Your food always looks so good to me! I think we have bery similar tastes!
I have never seen that kind of Clif bar before! I’m going to have to look for them! Just bought one of those Greens bars myself too, I have yet to try it!
And of course, I love Heidi too! I’m making one of her cookie recipes tomorrow!!!
I have yet to find those Clif bars in stores! They sound sort of like larabars?
Good luck on the 7-miler
Holy Cow!! That salad looks so good. I love cabbage. I love miso. I love tofu. The combo sounds foodgasmic haha. Good luck on your 7 miler tomorrow!!
After dinner I shut down my computer and give Maya and Ali my full attention for a little while. It isn’t easy to stop checking emails, blogs, the news, etc. but I definitely feel better afterwards!
I still need to figure this out. I feel like I’m always late and I don’t do everything that I’m supposed to, and that’s before I try to be social and spend time with my friends and family. I usually have to schedule phone dates weeks in advance, and my house has been trying to get the 6 of us together for a meeting for ages now. Life is just too busy sometimes, and I definitely need to get my priorities straight so that I can do everything that I want to do.
Good luck with your long run!
SUCH a great dinner girl! my bf and i read the bible everyday and talk about it
i try to call my parents everyday but i need to do better about that!
I love that choc. chip peanut crunch Clif bar! Good luck with that run!
It’s really hard to fit stuff in when work is so consuming… I rely a lot on phonecalls and text messages, and fit in quality time when I can.
Good luck with the run!
commuter/purse trials and tribulations…girl that made me LOL
those primal strips i am seeing everywhere too!
apple cake, yum
xoox
Wow, you sound like one busy mamacita! The miso slaw looks amazing, I admire you for experimenting with coconut oil, it always seems intimidating to me for some reason.
Good luck on the seven mile run this morning and thanks for the shout out about my advice, hope it was semi-helpful;)
I have a wonderful group of family/friends and I will stop whatever I’m doing to take their calls/talk to them. I think it’s way too easy to waste time constantly checking for breaking e-mails, so I try to do that twice per evening–when I get home and just before lights out. i’m frequently unsuccessful, especially if i’m home alone. I always regret not spending more time with family and friends, or just reading a book. Technology sucks the minutes out of the day.
Good luck with your seven miles! Hope your knee does okay!
I’ve never made anything from Heidi that didn’t rock
Saw on twitter that you finished your 7! Congrats! I did three this morning.
Hot & Spicy Primal Strip? … Never seen that before!
Time is something that’s always running away from me, too… :/
<3 <3
Bagel breakfast with the boy?! What’s not to love?! I still haven’t given into the coconut oil yet. I get food obsessions and it sounds like an expensive one to get into
When I get really busy I have to prioritize with a To Do List. That includes friends/family time!
Yep, Heidi Swanson is a genius. That salad looks phenom.
Family time to me is so important. Even if my schedule is crazy, a quick phone call is easy and makes a world of difference!
Also wanted to say I overall dig your blog girlfriend!
i love all your ingredients! i may have to invest in a few “exotic things” when i hit hup whole foods this weekend.
i’ve been struggling to balance social/work/gym/relaxation – i think it’s going to have to start with waking up earlier. BOO.
i really hope the 7 miles went well! i think i make time for everything and everyone i love because i know what positive parts of my life they all are – so i just try to find ways to fit it all in. sometimes one aspect gets more attention than another, and that’s ok. we’ll figure it out eventually.
i had so much fun seeing you on tuesday! let’s make plans again very soon.
i have been having so many snacky days lately…which are great, but sometimes i do love some square meals. annndddd…that clif bar looks awesome! i haven’t seen those. and i totally just had a spontaneous bagel lunch…great minds think alike
let’s chat soon my dear!
good luck on the run tomorrow! make sure to ice tonight and if it hurts tomorrow, don’t push it! i’m sending healing knee vibes your way! i’m hoping mine’s healing after last weekend after 5 days off!
did i spy paper bird in your planner?? are you going/did you go?? and…?
I’m with you on the Clif C bars – they’re a bit too mushy. The taste is okay but there are much better bars out there, ya know?
Okay I’ve yet to buy and try miso but that cabbage salad has got me thinking that I need to asap!! It looks awesome.
