Ice Ice Baby

Looks like you guys really want to win some nut butter! Keep the entries coming; you have until tomorrow :-)

Yesterday I was up at the crack of 4:50 to get my booty to the gym and log 7 miles before work.  I popped an Aleve and grabbed two Clif Peanut Butter Shot Roks (the company sent these a while back) on the way out the door… I liked them! Not two “protein-y” and just hearty enough to satiate me at 5 AM.

Luckily I was so worried about hurting my knee that I didn’t find myself getting too bored on the treadmill.

Warm-up: 5.8 mph

Mile 2-5.5: 6.4 mph

Mile 5.5-6: 7.5 mph

Mile 6-7: 6.2, 5.8., 5.0, 4.5, 4.0, 3.5

Total time: 1:07:55

I dropped my iPod twice while I was running, and the first time after I had to stop and retrieve it and then start up again it really hurt.  It was pretty sore on the walk home, too, so while I ate breakfast, I iced.

Breakfast was the first breakfast cookie I’ve had in months!

This was a particularly good one.

  • 1/3 cup oats
  • 1/2 banana
  • 1/2 scoop vanilla protein powder
  • splash of skim milk
  • 1 tsp Maranatha No Stir Creamy Peanut Butter
  • 1 tsp chia seeds
  • toppings: goji berries, cinnamon, Greek yogurt, pumpkin, dried fig, agave

As soon as I got to work, I go an ice pack out of the freezer and kept it on my knee for most of the day.

Despite my long run, breakfast held me over really well!  I only needed an orange to hold me until lunch (I ate the apple later in the afternoon).

For lunch I had leftover Chopped Coconut Miso Salad and Everything Pretzel Crisps.

One of our coworkers thought Danielle and I were sisters… I don’t really see the resemblance, do you?

In addition to the apple, I also had a Caramel Chocolate Forze Bar in the afternoon.

After work I went to a networking happy hour (hello, $4 Absolut cocktails!) then came home to a delicious meal grace à Daddy-O: sautéed broccoli rabe, roasted tomatoes, octopus braised in red wine, and brown rice.

I also had a small bowl of mushroom and wild rice soup.

For dessert I had a bowl of Ciao Bella’s Blackberry Cabernet sorbet with chocolate sauce… somehow it was a little camera shy ;-)   Before I got into bed, I took one of my coworker’s suggestions (she’s run three half-marathons) and took a warm bath, then rolled out both IT Bands and glute muscles.  My calves are pretty sore today and I have a feeling my knee isn’t going to be much better.  I’m instating a “no running until Sunday” rule.

Off to go walk the pooch and get ready for the day.  Have a great weekend!

    HAPPY FRIDAY!!!

You seriously have a super dad! Octopus is one of my favorite foods, but it always seems so difficult to make. We should go have some grilled octopus in Astoria one day:)

I love your tights, by the way, and I do not see any resemblance between you and your co-worker haha.

Good idea to ice alot! It can never hurt!

That mushroom rice soup looks delicious – your Dad is quite the chef =)

Hope your knee and calves feel better,
    Nicole G

  • Your tights are adorable! :)

I don’t see the resemblance either, but people always thought my “best friend” and I were sisters, and we look NOTHING alike. It’s apparently just an assumption people make when they see two women together!

    <3 <3

  • ooooh i love your tights! and gracias for reminding me that I LOVE broccoli rabe! i never make it bc I always forget to pick it up–but yours looks phenomenal and I’m feeling inspired!

  • My knee was bothering me yesterday and I meant to wear my knee sleeve this morning and totally forgot. :( I wish I had something to ice it with here at work.

  • ummm…those tights are ADORABLE! where did you find such a herringbone pair like that?

yay for that treadmill run – i am in total awe. i don’t think i have ever run for more than an hour on the treadmill! i hope your knee feels better too – injuries are just NEVER any fun.

    have a fab weekend love!

  • so sorry about the knee pain :( Rest days sound much needed!

I don’t see a resemblance between you and your coworker…but my brothers have bright red hair, freckles and are almost a foot taller than me and people say we resemble each other. I think not. Heh.

Your dad looks like such a great cook!

  • I hope your knee is feeling better!

and those tights are SO cute! What did you wear them with?

  • Sorry about your knee but cute tights!

I wish my dad could make me anything…I can’t see him cooking me an egg, nevermind a great dinner.

  • aww i think it is definitely the cuteness factor which is why someone thinks you could be sisters!!! :) You guys both have sweet smiles.

Oh my goodness, your dinner looks fantastic!!! So many colors and components i just wish i had the drive to put my dinners together prettily at night. :P And i’m sorry to hear about your knee…UGH it sucks when that stuff happens!!!

P.s. I’m having a Sahale glazed nuts giveaway if you’re interested, please do enter!! Have a wonderful weekend dear!

  • haha i want to take pictures of my food with my camera at work but i haven’t gotten “the balls” yet to tell my coworkers about my blog. i’m so jealous you’re so good at it.

    btw i love your tights!

glad that your run went good and you’re so good with the icing and everything that you’ll be in tip top shape for the race :) p.s. i always get SO angry when i drop my ipod or accidently hit the emergency switch on the treadmill. one of my biggest pet peeves!

  • Take care of yourself! Keep icing the knee and taking hot baths. Don’t do to much!

Your meals look delish. Have a great day!

Whoa that breakfast cookie looks hardcore! I’ll have to try those peanut shot rocks…looks like the perfect little pre-workout snack. Although, I had a piece of PB toast before my conditioning class at the gym last night and I was SURE everyone could smell my PB-breath every time I huffed and puffed my way through jumping squats and pushups! Ohh well.
