The North Wind Doth Blow

I don’t know what is going on with the formatting… all of the text is aligning to the right of my photos and I can’t change it.  If you’ve had this problem, I’d appreciate your help!

Well, we are now back from a truly perfect weekend.  It was just what I needed to relax and recharge my batteries!  I hope you enjoyed yours as well.

On Friday night, we piled into the car and headed to Southampton.

When we got there, we had no obligations other than to read cozily in front of the fire.

Although it’s been 10 years since I’ve ordered a BLT at the Sip ‘n Soda, I finally discovered a solution: veggie cheeseburger-topped salad!

With a healthy side of onion rings, of course ;-)

It rained all weekend, so we decided it was perfect movie-watching weather and went to see Brooklyn’s Finest.  It’s really good, but very brutal- kind of like Training Day, part II, set in New York instead of LA.

After the movie, we grabbed comforting bowls of bottomless pasta at La Parmigiana.  This fettuccine with calamari is my new favorite.

No meal at the Parm is complete without salad and their famous dressing… it’s the only “Italian-style” dressing I’ve ever liked.

I found this clipping in Health magazine, and have been rolling out my ITB every day for a few minutes.  I really need to keep this habit up, and continue start doing more strengthening moves for my hips and legs.

After fueling up with the world’s most addicting bread (also known as Bob’s Red Mill Irish Soda Bread) and warming up to Yoga for Runners and swallowing an Aleve, I head outside to see how my legs were feeling.

My knee started to hurt after a mile, but I pushed through and ran five.  When I got home I used the foam roller on my ITB and stretched, and although my knee was still a little sore (and will probably be today as well), it wasn’t as bad as it could have been.

Whatever happens next Sunday, I’m going to have fun!

I restored my energy with a mug of hot chocolate, a big salad and a book.  Hit the spot!

Some of you asked why chocolate milk and hot chocolate is a good recovery drink for endurance athletes.  “Compared to plain milk, water, or most sports drinks, it has double the carbohydrate and protein content, perfect for replenishing tired muscles. Its high water content replaces fluids lost as sweat, preventing dehydration. Plus it packs a nutritional bonus of calcium, and includes just a little sodium and sugar — additives that help recovering athletes retain water and regain energy,” says Fitness magazine.   Pour me another, please!

When we got home, I unpacked, made myself a delicious dinner (grilled salmon marinated in lime juice, agave, olive oil & mustard, steamed broccoli and Trader Joe’s Harvest Grains blend) and watched Up In The Air. I didn’t have time to see all of the movies I wanted to this season, so I added them to my Netflix queue instead!

Well, I’m off to get the work week started.  Today I feel rested and ready for it!  Have a great Monday :-)

“Whatever happens next Sunday, I am going to have fun” <- LOVE THIS! Keep reminding yourself!!!!

What do you use to blog? I have formatting trouble if I use WordPress directly, but LiveWriter helps a bit.

  • Ada

    Ughhh squid haha.

I’m glad you had a nice, relaxing weekend in SH!!! All of your eats look amazing (with the exception of the calamari topped pasta lol) and your poochie is the cutest thing ever:)

Sorry about the formatting issues, hopefully someone will be able to resolve it. We practically have identical Le Sport Sac duffel bags, by the way.

  • Oh man, those onion rings are so calling my name! I haven’t had those in years and they are too tasty to go without!! That Irish soda bread looks fabulous as well!

Glad that the rolling has helped you with your IT bands. Can’t we just have them removed?! Mine give me so many issues as well. Hope you have a good Monday :)

  • I can’t help you on the formatting…but I kind of like it! :-)

Sounds like a great weekend– and good job on the run! Yes, having fun is DEFINITELY the most important thing!

  • sounds like a great weekend!

Your doggie is very cute sitting all perfect :)

  • I didn’t see any of the Oscar nominated movies besides Food Inc and Avatar, so I added a bunch to my netflix queue, too! At least you can’t notice any formatting issues in Google Reader! If you do do the half marathon next weekend, take it easy cardio wise and see if you can squeeze in a good yoga session!

It looks like you are having a FABULOUS time…sooooo excited for you that you could get away for a little bit! you are an amazing chica and work so hard..you def deserve to get a little escape from the schedule! I hope you enjoy a lot more time reading by the fire!!! have a great monday girlie! xoxo!!

  • We need to come out to NYC and Southhamptom for a visit this summer, but I also need to make it to Gintaras. Dang- so much to do, so little time. Those onion rings look divine (and the salad).

  • i love the idea of that salmon marinade!

also, i find that text problem happens when i align my pics to the left. that’s why i always center them, and it happens to go away. i’m really technologically advanced like that :)

yay for running – keep taking care of that knee!

looks like a lovely, relaxing weekend. lots of love to you miss LVP – let’s chat soon :)

  • We went and saw Brooklyn’s Finest, but I can’t say I much enjoyed it. Probably because my husband’s a cop. ;) I thought there was little point to it other than to say all cops were crooked or lazy.

  • so glad you had an amazing weekend!! soo many yummy eats!! cheese veggie burger, tofu, salads, salmon, ONION RINGS. haha! i love it!!!

hope this week is wonderful for you, lovey!

  • Ugh, I hate when wordpress gets all funky! I just deal with it, i’m not tech savvy enough to try and fix whatever’s going on!! hahah :)

Those onion rings look SOOOOO good. Childhood Red Robin birthday parties = eating massive, massive amount of those babies!

Hot chocolate, yummy salads, the fireplace, family…ahh it all sounds so nice! Glad you had a relaxing time love!!

  • Sounds like you had a relaxing weekend :) Those scones look yummy!

  • s.

wintertime hamptons is a secret little treasure. glad you were able to recharge!

  • Dang the irish soda bread looks PREETTTY INSANE!! I almost mistook it for a giant scone, which would have been also pretty tasty. hehehe I saw your oats from yesterday and now i’m craving that for dinner…ohhhh mannn

  • Oh girl…I know ALL about IT band pain. The foam roller really does help – I promise! And while the pain can be unpleasant, I don’t think running will cause permanent damage. I built up mileage slowly while foam rolling and stretching like a fiend and eventually the pain went away. See you at the potluck on Thursday??

  • are your pics accidentally aligned to the left?

    anyways, i dont really mind.

calamari really freaks me out…i almost cant look at the photo. im weird, whatever.

what the eff is irish soda bread…it looks SUPER YUM!! i want. time to hit the google on that one.
