At first I blamed it on the weather. Then I thought my body might be rebelling and telling me five hours of sleep just wasn’t enough. But last night I went to bed early (I was so tired I didn’t even realize I hadn’t taken my contacts out!) and woke up to a beautiful day. I wonder what’s going on? I think it might be that since I decided to take it easy exercise-wise, my body has moved into Pamper Mode! Who knew I had an inner diva?
I had high hopes of going to the gym this morning (just like yesterday), but alas, a 10-minute snooze turned into an hour-and-a-half long nap, and by the time I got up, I barely had time to shower and get dressed. I dried the top layer of hair and threw it up in a bun, and I was good to go.
Breakfast was eaten at my desk:

- 1/2 cup oats cooked in 1/2 cup water
- 1 banana
- 1 mini Apple Pie Larabar
- 1/2 packet Justin’s peanut butter
It was nice out so a few of my co-workers and I ate outside for lunch. It wasn’t quite warm enough in the shade and we were a bit chilly, but it was a nice taste of what to come!

In my lunch bag, with snacks to eat throughout the day:
- apple
- orange
- Pomegranate Chobani
- honey wheat pretzels
- Cocoa-Coconut Chili topped with avocado, Laughing Cow light, and lime
Work was busy. Luckily, I finished a huge project I was working on at exactly 4:55, and left the office around 5:15 or so. When I got home I “changed” into my workout clothes (i.e. kept my leggings on and changed my top), stretched and foam rolled for a few minutes, and set off for a short run outside.
I grabbed a Medjool date with almond butter on the way out the door:

My Garmin was “locating satellites” for the duration of the run so I don’t know how far or how fast I went, but I ran pretty quickly (probably between an 8-9 minute mile throughout) for about 2 miles or so. I felt a little tenderness in my knee during part of the run, but it hasn’t been sore since. Fingers crossed this foam rolling is doing the trick!
I had planned on making a new dish for dinner tonight, but when I looked through my schedule I realized I’m going to be out three nights this week and there just wont be time to get through the leftovers. So I settled on a quick and easy dinner: steamed broccoli and reheated fettuccine with calamari with dulse and nutritional yeast.

Followed shortly by a dessert plate with prunes, figs, a Medjool date, 85% dark chocolate and chocolate hazelnut butter. This was a little bigger than usual; I didn’t realize two figs were stuck together and there were only two squares of chocolate left in the box so I wanted to use it up.

Once I finish Deliverance, I’m going to do a 20 minute Lunar Flow Yoga Download (to clear my mind from the movie) before bed. I did the same last night; I really like winding down with this practice, and want to get back in the habit again.
How do you wind down for bed?
What do you think of websites like thisiswhyyourefat.com?

I recently got a Yoga DVD that has an A.M. and P.M. session!! I love doing the P.M. before going to bed it really helps me wind down. Girlie your eats look delish!! I am drooling over that desert platter, I can’t believe I have made it this long without chocolate.
When I’m motivated, I try to do at least a few stretches before bed. Otherwise, the best way I wind down is to crawl into bed with a good book and pet my dog while I’m reading. The Daily Show and the Colbert Report help on particularly bad days…those guys are always good for a laugh.
That website is like a car accident – disturbing but hard to turn away from. A lot of the food on it remind me of things you see as challenges in Man v. Food on the Travel Channel. I actually think alot of it looks gross. Not even because it is like unhealthy but just because I think I’ve been spoiled by the wonderful plating skills of you lovely bloggers!
Have a good St. Patrick’s Day tomorrow!

wellll i am forever indebted to your inner diva for today’s MUCH NEEDED incredible weather haha
Love your dessert plate–just a bit of everything:)
I missed you! Love prunes and dates myself…never tried dates with PB! You are so smart. What would I do with out you?!?!?!
i think pamper mode may be the best part about resting an injury – though i have to say i failed completely at it and instead stressed myself out about the lack of exercise. so, i am encouraging you to let that inner diva loose.
so glad the knee is feeling a little better though!
those websites kind of fascinate me in that “i am incredibly horrified and disturbed, yet i can’t look away” way. although, i wonder if it’s that different from reading food blogs – just satisfying a different type of voyeurism. plus there seems to be some unspoken competition for who has the most heart-attack-inducing photo, which isn’t all that different from health bloggers who try to show the most “pure” day of eats.
wow, too much philosophy for 7:45 am. i better switch to reading gawker.
I LOL’d at “inner diva.” I think there’s a little bit of that in all of us. It’s good that you’re listening to your body. I have no idea how you go on 5 hours of sleep so maybe this is your body playing catch-up.
i listen to my ipod and play solitare on it to help myself wind down for bed. or i do tai chi exercises to calm my mind. works most of the time!
I think thisiswhyyourfat is hysterical! They also have a thisiswhyyourthin.
Wow, it must be sunny and nice everywhere but here. I’m jealous! I overslept too…I blame it on the weather and my growing baby. haha
Hey sometimes we just need those extra zzz’s.
I’m really tempted by that chili. I’ve been diggin’ coconut recently.
Blame it on the a-a-a-a-a-alcohol…
im the complete opposite right now…havent gone to bed before 2 am the past few days AND im waking up at 8 am on the reg (alarm free)…wtf?? can we just swap some hours or something?
Glad you got a run in and your knees are holding up!
I sleep way more when I am not exercising for some reason…bodies do such weird things sometimes. I keep thinking I need to listen to music and do something relaxing before bed, but lately it’s been almost midnight (I get up at 5) and I am tackling Reader/planning the next day/cleaning/organising. Ack.
OMG OMG OMG. Those OATS! So yummy looking. Great picture!
At first I thought ThisIsWhyYou’reFat was kinda funny, but it ended up just making me sad/disgusted. It’s really gross to me that sport eating has become some sort of badge of honor for some people. What’s so “cool” about gorging yourself? Proving that you can eat a ton of greasy, nasty food is not something to be proud of! In my (ever-humble) opinion, of course…
i usually wind down for bed by getting my things ready for the morning, moisturizing and reading. i also light an incense when i’m feeling ultra hippieish.
On Monday it was a new moon, i posted about it in this post
http://www.loveveggiesandyoga.com/2010/03/coconut-water-sports-drink-recipe.html
about why we are naturally pulled downward and inward during times of new moon, could explain your sleepy mood
dessert plate AND a medjool w/ AB
nice.
And you will be Katie Lil Veggie to me always..that’s funy b/c in my h.s. there were also a million katies! Katie and Jenny I think are the 2 most common names I grew up with
oxoxo
5 hours is definitely not enough! I slept so poorly last week, that this week I’ve been oversleeping too. It’s definitely your body’s way of catching up on lost sleep!
oh my gahhhh your pasta..amazing! LOVE the dessert plate!
this is why your fat makes me laugh, cry all at the same time! AH!
I think that you’re just stealing all of my hours of sleep
Kidding! Nothing wrong with getting a lot of sleep in! Glad you got your project done. Isn’t that a big relief when things are done?!
I’ve never looked at that website but I have looked at stuffwhitepeoplelike now and then to get a little laugh.
that yoga ritual sounds like a great way to end the day!
I’m awful at winding down for bed – I usually take my laptop with me and read blogs until I can’t keep my eyes open anymore. I really should avoid electronics and focus on relaxing, but I never seem to be able to force myself away from my Google Reader!
I am kind of grossed out by that site – while I think that it is supposed to be funny, there really is an obesity epidemic in the country and people actually eat that way. While I probably overdose on green vegetables on a regular basis, there is a big problem in this country about what people think is appropriate to eat. Some of those meals really are just heart attacks waiting to happen, and no matter how delicious a deep fried twinkie paired with oreos and bacon may be, it’s not something fit for human consumption.
I loved what Leslie said. So eloquently stated! I couldn’t put it better myself.
Glad to hear you’re feeling a little better on the running front!
