KooKoo KooLoo!

A little while ago, Seapoint Farms sent me samples of their new snack products, KooLoos.

KooLoos are made with organic ground flaxseeds and organic roasted soybeans and contain 3g of dietary fiber per serving. According to the company, KooLoos are:

  • Rich in Omega-3 Fatty Acid (each 30g serving provides 600 mg of Omega 3s from ground flaxseed)
  • A good source of soy protein (each 30g serving provides 7g of soy protein)
  • Heart-healthy
  • Cholesterol-free
  • Trans Fat-free

You can find them at health and mainstream food stores, retailing around $2.19.

While I’m usually a straight-sweet kind of girl my palate has craved salty things of late: crackers, pretzels, pita chips. These KooLoos came at just the right time! They come in three flavors: Original, Salsa, and Honey BBQ.

Original

Salty on the outside, and sweet when you bite into them. Good combination of the two!

Salsa

Somehow these really do taste like salsa! There’s a bit of cayenne pepper in here that gives them a bit of a kick, and remind me of healthier Doritos.

Honey BBQ

Smoky! I definitely taste the barbeque flavor, but would like a little more of the honey. Still, I found myself reaching back into the bag for more.

One of my favorite ways to eat chips, crackers, and the like is in salads. I find this way I have a little more control (if you’re at all like me, you open a bag and all of a sudden it’s 3/4 finished…) and makes a regular lunch a little more interesting.

The KooLoos were a great addition: bite-sized, flavorful, and didn’t lose their crunch when moistened by a little dressing.

Of course, they’re also suitable “beer nut” replacements… and if you’re in a classy mood, have ‘em with a glass of Pinot :-)

Would I buy these? Probably. I’m always on the lookout for healthy, savory snacks, and these were pretty good. I don’t usually keep these kinds of things around (as I usually prefer the sweeter things), but I would certainly mix them with nuts and dried fruit to make an interesting trail mix or set them out if I in the entertaining mood.

What is your favorite kind of crunchy, savory snack?

Thank you again, Seapoint Farms!
