Happy Endings

Morning, chickadees! How is your week going? Mine has been hard, and although each day has felt quite long, it’s just flying by. What’s one thing you’re excited for today?

I had every intention of waking up at 5:45 yesterday to work, but unfortunately Snooze and I had a pretty serious flirtation and I didn’t end up rolling out of bed until almost 7. Whoops!

This weekend I tested out a Chocolate Cherry Bomb for the first time, and I loved it! My own version is a little different; I find that I’m not really satisfied if I only have a smoothie for breakfast, so I made my CCB lighter so I could add another component to my meal: a bagel thin with peanut butter, 1/2 topped with Scottish honey and 1/2 spread with mixed fruit jam.

My green guy contained:

  • 3 cups loosely packed spinach
  • 15ish frozen cherries
  • 1 cup almond milk
  • 1 tsp cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp honey

Delish!

It almost turned into “one of those days” after I left the house: I was halfway down the block before I realized I’d forgotten my lunch in the fridge and had to go back, I left my MetroCard in a different coat pocket and had to buy a new one, and, later in the day at work, the copy machine and I got into quite the disagreement.

But, little things, like this skim iced coffee (with one packet of raw sugar) bring me back to the happy place.

At work, I snacked on a particularly sweet and juicy navel orange and a Golden Delicious apple.

Return of the perfect lunch! After a spell of weak mish-mosh work lunches, this restored my faith.

Mary’s Gone Crackers were on sale at Whole Foods the other day, so I brought some with a serving of baba ghanoush. To keep it from making a mess in my lunch bag, I wrapped the glob tightly in saran wrap and twisted the edges shut.

YUM. Cocktail foods during the work day? You betcha!

I also packed an orange & ginger Siggi’s; these cost $3 a container everywhere I’ve seen them, so if I hadn’t had a coupon from Amie I probably wouldn’t have bought it, although I’ve always been curious! Danielle and I both thought it was pretty tart, but I liked that it wasn’t overly sweetened. I would love to try out their other flavors, but it’s too darn expensive!

The main event was a big spinach salad (1/2 bag) topped with leftover scallops and veggies (and a noodle or two that snuck in the bowl).

Later in the afternoon I snacked on a Chocolate Cherry Almond Luna Protein bar.

After work, I rushed home to walk them pooch and then meet Ari at Joe’s Pub for Happy Ending, a music and reading series. I didn’t actually know that Happy Ending was happening that night; I thought we were just going to see Christina Courtin! Lucky me: Adam Haslett (You Are Not A Stranger Here), Sam Lipsyte (Homeland, The Ask) and Zoe Heller (What Was She Thinking? Notes On A Scandal, The Believers) were all reading! It was a lot of fun to both hear great music and see some of my favorite authors read.

We ate at the venue, but I couldn’t snap a photo during the reading. I had a massive grilled veggie + goat cheese panini on baguette... it took me over 30 minutes to eat!

After the show, we went to Stogo for dessert. This is one of my favorite treat spots in the city, and I haven’t been for quite some time! I was pretty excited for the Bananas Foster + Oatmeal Cookie cup I ordered.

Unfortunately, the server mixed up my order and gave me Key Lime instead of Oatmeal Cookie, and I didn’t realize until I’d left the store. It was a little sad how sad I was about it… especially after spending $6.25! But… it’s only ice cream. Right?

Exciting food news: Deep Chocolate Vitatops (one of my favorite flavors of Vitamuffins) are now available in 12-packs in Midwestern Costco! Almost wish I were in still in Minnesota so I could pick up a box. To celebrate, Vitalicious is generously giving away a box to one lucky US reader! Want to win? Just leave a comment on this post! For an extra entry, Tweet about this giveaway and/or link back to it in your own post, if you have a blog.

Off to work! Have a great day :-)

Joe’s Pub +Stogo sounds like an awesome night. We definitely need to have a fro-yo/ice cream/dessert-in-general date soon;)

Yay for giveaways, I am totally addicted to vitatops.

  • Ada

I also loved, by the way, how you snapped a photo of your bagel next to the NY Times article, so clever:)

  • lit readings, stogo, outdoor dining… looks like a lovely day!

your saran wrap hummus trick amuses me. i ended up buying little mini tupperware containers to pack hummus in… definitely one of those lunch-packing issues!

  • Despite the flavor mix-up (bummer!), Stogo is totally worth it, no? I still haven’t been there!

  • Ugh I hate when orders get mixed up like that. But I’m glad your lunch mojo is back ;)

Mmmm Vitatops… Yes please! (haha just saw how creepy this comment sounds)

  • Next time I’m in the city I really want to hit up vegan ice cream avec toi! I didn’t like all the Vitatop flavors, but the chocolate ones are winners!

  • s.

mmm vitatops. sweet treat! i had one luna protein but couldn’t quite get into it, but they’re the least expensive bar with prety good stats, so maybe i’ll have to give them another shot.

  • I’m the same way about smoothies for breakfast… just drinking something doesn’t satisfy me. Toast + smoothie is perfect.

    Gimme those vitatops!

  • I’ve always wanted to try Vitatops but I never have.

  • ok, you NEED a mini tupperware for hummus/baba/etc. its a must. get thee to a BB&B or zabars now.

i didnt really like that protein luna flavor, im not sure why, maybe i have to be in the mood for cherry things. but then i loved (past tense) the cookie dough flavor but it kept killing (KILLING!!!) my stomach so i had to give them up. sad.

baguettes always remind me of europe. i think i want one now. yum. i need to go on vacay.

  • Your title cracked me up. I have never tried a vitatop, so if I win…yeehaw!

  • Kirstin

  • Key lime instead of oatmeal cookie?!? BOO!!! I would have been disappointed too!

    Fun day though!

  • Danielle

STOGO! You got that flavor idea from Matt, didn’t you :) … Too bad it didn’t work out though. And yes, I’m reading your blog from digital marketing training. Snooze…

  • *Andrea*

i loveeee VitaTops!!! Especially the chocolaty ones melted for a little in the microwave or spread with almond butter.

  • OMG, I wish I could enter this giveaway. Hmm. I wonder if I can use my aunts freezer until my mom goes over and can bring them back? (FYI- the frozen ones can be out the freezer for 24 hours and then refrozen with no affect to quality!)

That fro-yo looks delish. I’d be so mad if I got lime instead of oatmeal cookie!

  • Everyone is eating those amazing Siggi’s yogurts – I am dying to try them! I love ginger, and can only imagine how good it is :) Based on that price, though – it’s probably good I can’t get my hands on them :P

  • Ellen

I’ve never even had a Vitatop, but I’ve been meaning to for FOREVER! Your dessert looks soo yummy…I would have been a little bummed about keylime pie, too. I looove oatmeal cookies :)

    Thanks
    Katherine

  • Kate

  • Diana

ooh, I’d love to win the vitatops! They’re so good with yogurt! Speaking of, that ginger siggi’s yogurt looked so interesting- I even can’t imagine what the flavor of ginger would be like in yogurt!

  • Melissa

I’ve tried a few Vitatops and they are delish! A little too pricey for my budget though, so I’d love to win!!

  • Brynne

    Brazilian XOXO´s,
    Gabriela

  • Ana

So sad you didn’t get the ice cream you wanted, specially after spending that much on it but the Key Lime ice cream doesn’t sound too bad ;) Your salad looks awesome what are the white sticks you have on it?? are those hearts of palm??

I love VitaTops so happy they have them in Costco!!

  • $6.25 for ice cream seems pretty steep! I guess prices in NYC are a good 30% higher than here in LA. Or maybe I am just out of touch with ice cream prices in general? But it certainly looks worth it!!

  • Ellie

Do your dips really not leak out of the saran wrap? Genius!

  • Jess

    I love vita!

  • Ohh! I’d love to win the Vitatops! I’ve been a fan for life but am discouraged by buying the ONLY online. This would be amazing! :)

  • Sometime soon we need to go to Lula’s (E. 6th St near Avenue A) – I promise it’s the most amazing vegan ice cream in the world :-) They even have a pb & j flavor!

  • Definitely had those days!! Glad to see that you took it like a champ! That is exactly the way to handle little hiccups in life. You certainly had an amazing day of eats though. I love your idea of twisting that baba into a sausage roll. I know i probably couldn’t get away with taht though. I’m so clumsy i’d probably squash it in my bag by mistake. EXPLOSION!!! that would suck! :p

  • elaine

loved this post! especially about how you didn’t let the day be “one of those days.”

  • Kate

MMMMM, stogo. I had it yesterday as well. DELICIOUS!

  • Ramisa

Stogo looks so delicious. Not sure why, but I always thought it was frozen yogurt. But then again, I’ve never had frozen yogurt… hahaha

  • I adore deep chocolate vitatops!
