Well hello, lads and lassies!

Howard, my ballet companion last night, thought I needed to have this headband, so have it I do. I feel quite Renaissance in it!
Yesterday, anticipating my Bikram yoga class, I made a nice big cold bowl of cereal: Kashi GoLean, GoLean Crunch, Kaia granaola, an apple, and skim.

I have to admit: after going a year without taking a Bikram class, I was a little nervous. It’s been a few months since I’ve been in any yoga class, much less a 90 minute one that takes place in intense heat! Still, I was determined.
I snacked on an orange for a hydrating bite.

Leaving myself a good hour to get to the studio and get changed, I arrived 15 minutes early only to be told that the online schedule wasn’t accurate, and that there was no class scheduled for this location for another 3 hours. But, I could “hop in a cab” and hopefully make it to their uptown location before the noon class started. Rushing and watching my dollars slowly dwindle away on a New York City cab ride, I was in a less than “zen” mood by the time I got to the new studio, but luckily I was able to fill out my paperwork and get to the room on time.
The class itself felt great, for the most part. I’d forgotten how much a person can sweat… I’ve never been anywhere near this drippy while running a race or at the gym! Some poses were a bit more of a challenge than others, but I did my best. The last 30 minutes were the toughest, and I was more than ready to be done when the class was over. Still, I’m happy I have 9 more to go to before my 30 days run up (my mom bought me a 10 class/30 day Groupon for this particular studio). It feels good to get a different kind of workout in.
I’d forgotten I was uptown and not at the original studio when I got outside and was a little disoriented (and so thirsty!) but I walked about a mile to get to my subway line, re-acclimating myself to being outside. Compared to the Bikram heat, the 80+ weather actually felt cool! I munched on some dried fruit + nuts on my walk. Notice the Delia’s burst on my yoga mat? Yes, it’s that old.

After scrubbing down myself and my mat, I made a big salad.

- spinach
- tofu
- avocado
- grape tomatoes
- dulse
- hemp seeds
- lemon juice/macadamia nut oil/sea salt dressing
- baby carrots (unphotgraphed)
I also had a blueberry Chobani.

A little later, knowing I wouldn’t be having a formal dinner, I toasted 1/2 Arnold’s sandwich thin and smeared it with flaxy peanut butter and key lime curd.

Howard and I met at Lincoln Center’s Avery Fisher Hall for En Pointe, a talkback series with a pair of ballet dancers. It’s really helpful to hear about the dances before seeing them… I know what to look for! It’s also nice to be fed
We had antipasti…

… Chardonnay…

… and some dessert bites (I ate half).

We had a great time and saw a variety of ballets (classic, modern, contemporary). I’m fortunate to have generous people in my life who bring me to things like this!
When I got home, I had a couple carrots while finishing my book in bed. I’m a real wild child.

We’re off to the zoo in a few! What are you up to on this lovely day?

Love that headband!
Oh man
So sorry about the schedule mix-up. I wouldn’t have been able to do the yoga at ALL, for fear of punching someone out in rage, hahaha.
Enjoy the zoo!
I was supposed to work all day, but thanks to a cold I’ve been recovering from, I spent the day in bed. Now I’m rested and can handle watching a movie or two.
Your headband is adorable!
I love yoga, but I’ve never tried Bikram. It scares the crap out of me. I love sweating when I’m doing cardio, but doing it too much in yoga class just doesn’t really appeal to me. (Sometimes I run before going to a class and usually find it to be less enjoyable.) But, maybe I should try it. Are the poses actually harder or is it just the HEAT that makes it tough?

I really have missed bikram too…it’s been way too long since I’ve gone…I am sure it was great to sweat it all out.
sounds like a great day lady! I love the ballet.
the zoo!!!! i’m SO jealous! seriously the zoo and the ballet in one weekend is ultra awesome
i’m doing schoolwork. fml. inside. fml.
Love the headband!
After seeing it so much on your blog, I think I might have to go find some lemon curd for myself!
Yay zoos! Hope you took pictures :0)
yay, so glad you started bikram! you’ll have to tell me if the uptown location is less…dirty.
the ballet sounds wonderful – i’m having a pretty art-filled weekend myself. love it!
Yikes, that mix up is really unfortunate. I’m glad you made it on time though, but hopefully the one you went to first updates their website!
I’ve actually been dying to go to the ballet. According to my friend, the one they’re doing now at Lincoln Center has a really famous ballerina in it? I’m dying to check it out!
Wow, that chocolate thing with the powdered sugar looks DELICIOUS. I love sweating; luckily, I’m an easy sweater so I’m dripping wet and soaked after only 30 min of bike intervals!
hehe adorable pic!! OMG THE ZOO!! wow have a blast! <3
yea the heat at bikram here seems to get hotter each time.. lol.. im wondering how a bikram class would feel in the summer when it gets hot here. id prolly be the same way and go outside thinking "ahh its cool out" while everyone else is laying on the sidewalk baking lol.
I really want to try Bikram! Is it suitable for yoga newbies? There are no classes here, but I am hoping to try it in NY. Enjoy the rest of your pass!
I always like knowing the stories behind dances…
Have fun at the zoo! My day was spent reading, cooking and out with my mom.
I love sweating. I think I have a problem in that I never sweat much. Even when I run really far. Maybe if I did Bikram I’d be able to better. ha
Love that you were willing to try Bikram again after a break. I have 2 Groupons that I have to use before doing anything else- Yogaworks and Pilates on Fifth.
I’m using June as a month to focus on all types of workouts (running, yoga, pilates, and weights).
I love the ballet as well so if you’re ever interested let me know! What day do you want to do lunhc? I may go to Yoga Works tomorrow night if you’re interested!
I hope you had fun at the zoo. Maybe we will get to see some pictures?
Hi Beautiful!
Glad you got your bikram in. I have to say NOTHING worse than rushing off to a yoga class and coming in all discombobulated…so un-centering for your energy but sounds like you rocked it. YAY for you!!!!!!
xo
I’m so glad you loved the bikram!!! I hadn’t done it in over a year and just recently started going every other day and it is changing my life! OBSESSED. And just sweating all the bad out is recharging and making feel like BUENO!
Oh, man! I used to love Delia’s! The other day I realized a pair of my pajama pants were 12 years old, i.e. I bought them Freshman year…FROM DELIA’s! LOL
