If you’ve been reading for awhile, you probably know I have a mild obsession with lemon curd. (This is my favorite, and I’m taking it to the grave.) Well, my dad was just in Nice- famous for its amazing markets- and he spotted this lemon jelly. It’s just made with lemon rind, water, and sugar, but has so much flavor.

I melted some into my hot oatmeal yesterday morning, and it was fabulous! So fabulous, in fact, that it broke my breakfast bowl.

September oats
- 1/3 c. rolled oats
- 2/3 c. water
- 1/3 c. almond milk
- 1 banana, “caramelized” in the microwave for 1 minute
- sunflower butter
- lemon jelly
- cinnamon
- sea salt
Spent some quality time with Charley in the park. He always gets so excited when we go out!

Look how fast he goes… he’s just a blur! He may be a “senior dog” (he’s 12), but this poodle has more zest for life than a lot of people I know.

Kitchen sink salad for lunch. There are so many recipes I want to make, but I have to use up the leftovers first!

- arugula
- green leaf lettuce
- roasted vegetables
- smoked tofu
- heirloom tomatoes
- baby bell peppers
- olive oil/ pear vinegar/ sea salt/ pepper dressing
Went for a wonderful run in the park later. It was a little damp because we’ve had a rainy few days, but the temperature was perfect. I ran about 4.5 miles, and it felt good to fill my lungs with fresh air! Rehydrated and munched an apple. (I’m rolling with silver finger- and toenails! I was feeling a little futuristic
.)

After a quick stop at the CSA for this week’s produce, I headed over to Rebecca’s new digs in Brooklyn. Can I just take a moment to say that everyone is moving to Brooklyn?! Everyone! One day I may have to follow the trend….
The meal was, as usual, potluck-style. It’s how we do.

Shayne showing off the art of double-fisting:

I brought Roasted Garbanzo Beans and Garlic with Swiss Chard. It was good, but the roasted chickpeas were the best part! Remind me to make them more often.

Rebecca’s sister made a delicious, fall-inspired galette with butternut squash and caramelized onion. If that doesn’t make you feel like fall, I don’t know what will!

Clockwise from left: roasted garbanzos with swiss chard, Megan’s bulgur salad with fruit, sundried tomato hummus from Nanoosh c/o Shayne, Sofia’s curried white bean dip with parsley.

Pita chips, Rebecca’s roasted butternut squash, new roommate’s tomato and mushroom bruschetta.

(Another hummus glamour shot), Leslie’s kale salad with heirloom tomatoes, whole wheat pita.

So many different flavors!

Rebecca made a scrumptious apple crisp for dessert.

Served with local cinnamon ice cream from Van Leeuwen!

Another wonderful dinner with great friends in the city that does go to sleep, but stays up very, very late.

What did you do on your last night out?

you can feel the urge. it is strong. it’s the urge to move HERE. TO BROOKLYN!!
there goes my supremely unsexy profile rearing its ugly head! hahaha. you can tell i’m passionate about whatever i’m talking about for sure.
yes. the brooklyn move is essential! one day we’ll all be there, priced out of manhattan and living it up as bk neighbors.
OMG that potluck looks to die for. All of those dishes are making me drool!! I want to try your roasted chickpea recipe ASAP.
I’m so so glad that you were able to make it last night! And I’m still thinking about all those delicious dishes…I just checked out the Smitten Kitchen recipe for the butternut squash and onion galette and I think I need to re-create it ASAP. YUM, fall.
Keep me posted about any and all celebrations for next weekend – my calendar suddenly opened up.
You get to go to so many fabulous potlucks!! I’m jealous!
mm lemon anything. I just love lemon combined with sweetness! Perfection. Glad you got in a nice run! I did too- it is my sanity
The potluck looks like fun. That galette? I need! Last night? I watched Arthur with Josh, Kaylin & Frank
if somehow you can make the move happen…do it do it do itttttt. seriously, i’m so happy here, and my rent is wayyy cheaper. and it’s pretty. and the food is so good.
shayne and i look seriously skeptical of whatever sofia is saying haha. i love your paparazzi photos.
I went out on Tuesday with some girlfriends to a wine bar. Every time you post about these dinners though it makes me want to host a potluck. Are your friends all vegetarians or do they just do that for you?
Wanna move to Brooklyn with me? I’m half kidding.
Boo, I’m bummed I missed this. But, I’m totally moving to Brooklyn. You, me, and Anna. It’ll be perfect
.
The potluck offerings look delicious, especially the mushroom hors d’oeuvre! My last night out? One of my more unusual nights out this previous weekend included a 1920s speakeasy style birthday party. I studied 1920s makeup and dress and did my best to emulate the styles. Fun times:) Hope you are well…
