When I was a sophmore in college, a few of my friends and I went camping in North Dakota over Fall Break, which took place over the weekend just before Halloween. This photo is one of the sole survivors of that weekend, but the moral of the story is this: late October is a very, very cold time to camp in the North.

That was the last time I camped out. Until this past weekend. And I didn’t even have to leave my apartment!
URBAN CAMPING, IN FOUR EASY STEPS

Step 1. Build a fort! You are never too old.

2. Make S’Mores. Your experience won’t be complete without them. And here’s a delicious innovation: use a peanut butter cup instead of plain ole chocolate. Holy moly.

3. Roast those marshmallows! A gas burner works just as well as any old campfire.

4. Build a fire. Actually, that’s a terrible idea, and you didn’t hear it from me! So instead, just watch one on YouTube while listening to music from your youth.

Have you ever gone camping? Where did you go, and what made it fun?
Have you ever… camped at HOME?

I went camping as a Brownie which is before Girl Scouts. i did learn about S’mores and taking a shower in the woods by putting holes in a empty coffee can which hung from a tree limp after punching a hole in the bottom….havent done that since….
LOVE THIS
<3 this post. one year, my friends and i built a fort during new year's eve. one of the best times of my life. looks like you had fun
Love it! So important to remember that you don’t have to be a child to play.
haha I still have a scar on my toe from a marshmallow that fell on me at a girl scout campout back in the day. I kind of love the idea of building a fort and making s’mores over the stove.
I love this! I think over Christmas break, my kids will “go camping” in the toy room one night
Great idea, thank you!
What a cute idea!
PB cup vs. chocolate bar = genius idea <3 I have to go camping(at home) this weekend!
this is so cute! I love to build forts and I definitely have done so since I turned 18. I’m a big fan of the whole child at heart concept.
my senior year of high school my 2 best friends went camping at a state park in Vermont. it was cold and terrifying and we went to brunch as soon as it was light out. we may be from the country, but we’re all secretly city girls at heart who are much happier with a blanket fort in a hotel room than the middle of a forest.
I’ve never camped at home, but I think I need to – especially if there are s’mores involved!
I have to admit though… I built a mini fort of boxes and blankets a few months back for my cats.
haha! this is adorable. please tell me you did this with your new man friend…
Okay seriously, you are just too cute! Love the idea!
So cute&fun! love this!! I hope your week is off to a great start! xoxo!
my sister and i once went camping in our house in east hampton. yes, you read that corrected IN our house. we set up a tent, and started the night in there… then obviously realized our beds were way more comfortable
p.s. another good smores trick: put peanut butter on the graham cracker- all the diff pb & co. flavored ones lend themselves really well to this, as does nutella.
You stole the fort idea from Troy & Abed
indoor camping with smores is WAY more appealing than freezing in the outdoors…but i do like camping in so cal in the summer. clearly im a warm weather baby
