Hello, and welcome to Lilveggiepatch! My name is Katie and I am 23 years old. I was born and raised in New York City, and after graduating from a small liberal arts college in the Midwest in May 2009 with degrees in English and French, I moved back to the City.
I began this blog in August 2008 right before my Senior year of college. I’ve had a passion for food and cooking pretty much since birth, and decided it was high time to join the food blogging community. This was also shortly after I decided, on a whim, that I was going to train for and run the Twin Cities Marathon in Minnesota. Having had no real experience with running, I quickly injured myself and was out of commission for three months. Since then, I have completed seven races (find the re-caps here), bounced back from a recurring injury, and have run two half marathons! Lately, though, as my life grows busier and my priorities continue to evolve, I’ve been keeping to a less rigid exercise schedule. My weeks tend to include a mix of light cardio, strength training, and yoga… a combination that helps maintain my mental health just as much as my physical.
I don’t like to use labels to categorize my eating habits, but for the sake of clarity will say that I have led a vegetarian/ pescatarian lifestyle for the past ten years. The majority of my family and friends are food enthusiasts, and I was lucky to have grown up with a palate for things kale-and-egg salads, pumpkin-mushroom soups, and unusual breakfast sandwiches. That being said, I enjoy a glass of wine every now and then, and almost never go to bed without dessert. After years of hating exercise and struggling to define my relationship with food, I’ve found I am most happy when I am active, fed wholesome and nourishing foods, and indulged. This is the only body I’ve got, and it deserves to be pampered!
After a brief career in publishing, I’m a student again, in my first year of a post-baccalaureate program to gain the needed requirements to apply to school for physical therapy. In addition to taking undergraduate math and science classes, I’m working about 30 hours a week as a hostess in a restaurant. Going to school and work at the same time is new to me, and I’m still working out some of the kinks! As you’ll soon come to see, I love to travel, cook, go out to eat, spend time with my family, read, watch movies, hear live music, and explore New York. It can be a challenge to keep doing what I love while keeping up with my studies and work, but so far, so so good!
Thanks for stopping by, and I hope to see you again soon

I love your style of eating/cooking. What are you most conscious about? how many calories something has? how much protein? how much fat? where the ingredients come from?
