Good morning! I hope your weekend is off to a GREAT start. I’m going to make this as quick as possible, because Ari and I are off to Woodstock for the day! We’ll be spending the night, and coming back tomorrow. I’m so excited! My family and I used to go to Woodstock every fall, but I haven’t been able to go since I started college. It brings back such happy memories, and I’m really looking forward to showing Ari all of my favorite spots! We’re so lucky to be able to make such a wonderful, last-minute trip.

Yesterday I had my new favorite breakfast: fruit (1/2 mango and 1 peach) with raw almond milk and cereal (Puffins).

I’d been planning on going to a 12:00 Vinyasa Flow class, but I overslept a wee bit. By the time I got there (5 minutes before class began) the room was packed! I should have known that all of the East Village would be trying to cram in one last yoga practice before Labor Day weekend. I didn’t let that ruin my day, though, so I did 20 easy minutes on the bike while I read my book, abs, and some strength training.

I ate lunch in the park: an apple and my new favorite sandwich.

Hummus, mustard, sprouts, arugula, and a TJ’s Marsala burger on Ezekiel. Mmm!

There was mail that needed to be picked up at my parents’ house, so I headed up there. This was, to be honest, just an excuse to check out the new Whole Foods store!

The escalators have a special lane for carts, just like at Costco!

I ground my own organic peanut butter…

Admired the raw goodies…

Visited the sample station…

I had a slice of whole wheat bread with Rao’s marinara sauce. Mmm!

I got dinner for later at the salad bar:

spinach

corn

baked tofu

raw squash

grape leaves

lemon-scented tempeh

mac & cheese

saag paneer

farro

I picked up some bee pollen…

… so I could channel my beautiful raw girl. Frozen blubes & pollen rock!

I got my hands dirty in the kitchen…

Chopped a lot of dark chocolate…

Channeled Elana…

… and made gluten-free, vegan double chocolate mocha biscotti. I tweaked the recipe a little bit and added hazelnuts!

I bagged them up and got them ready for mailing.

But a girl’s gotta have her own dessert, too! I had a small biscotti butt with raspberries and blueberries.

A day well spent, if I do say so myself. Have a fantastic weekend! I’m leaving my computer at home so I can stay in the moment. See ya later!

Morning! Sorry I disappeared last night… the internet was not cooperating. Pretty tiresome, isn’t it?

Last night I didn’t have time to make a real dinner before class, so I heated up this guy.

Palak Paneer is one of my favorite dishes to get when we have Indian, so my hopes were not high for this frozen version.

But… it was surprisingly good! It was a little mild (“medium spiced”) so I added (surprise) chili flakes. I also had two rebel (unpeeled) carrots.

While it was “cooking,” I tried something I’ve been meaning to for months: Gliding Calm’s toasted tempeh PB&J. It sounds weird, but tempeh is really just a chunky grain, so it’s not surprising that this tasted great! Way to go, Miss GC. I’ll be having this one again!

During class (which was unfortunately interminable… Tidal Wave has no redeeming qualities) I had a Rachel’s yogurt.

Around 10:30 before bed, I had a Peanut Butter Chocolate Luna Cookie.

Don’t they look just like baby Z bars? I heated them up, Megan-style (whom I miss very much), to get the full melty chocolate effect. It was… okay. I definitely did not feel like I could trick myself into thinking it was a cookie, like I can with Chocolate Chip Z Bars. The peanut butter flavor was kind of protein bar esque, so i don’t know if I would buy it again.

This morning I got to sleep an extra two hours late because my professor canceled class due to overwork. See, even professors get stressed out! Sorry about that… I appreciated the extra Z-time, though.

I’ve had this sample of Banana Nut Cheerios in my pantry for a while now, and thought it was about time to whip it out to review. I ate it with skim milk, a banana and a few walnuts/pecans.

Pros: definite “banana” taste, like a banana chip. Sweet, although it’s sometimes too sweet, depending on how many Cheerios sneak onto the spoon.

Vitamin E (Mixed Tocopherols) and BHT Added to Preserve Freshness. Vitamins and Minerals: Calcium Carbonate, Vitamin C (Sodium Ascorbate), Zinc and Iron (Mineral Nutrients), a B Vitamin (Niacinamide), Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxine Hydrochloride), Vitamin B2 (Riboflavin), Vitamin B1 (Thiamin Mononitrate), Vitamin A (Palmitate), a B Vitamin (Folic Acid), Vitamin B12, Vitamin D3.

Cons: Only 1g of protein and 1g of fiber. Had I not added banana and nuts I would probably be hungry in about twenty minutes!

Would I buy this again? Probably not, but I would eat it as a cereal base if it were around. I’m a bit spoiled with other cereal varieties that pack in tons of protein and fiber, as well as other vitamins and minerals, and this just doesn’t cut it on its own.

Time to start the day, once again. It’s already snowed once and is now pouring down rain, but hopefully it won’t be too gloomy. Have a happy Tuesday!

Happy Friday night! It’s only 11 here (10 Minnesota time) but I am in my PJs and ready for bed. I am wiped! 6:30 AM flights are not fun, let me tell you. I’d planned on saving some (a lot) of cash- money by taking the air train from the airport into Manhattan, but my bag felt like it was literally breaking my back and I decided to take a cab… I just won’t eat for the next month or so. Riiight.

When I got to the apartment, I had a small bowl of Mueslix with skim milk.

Charley kept me company while I passed out in bed for a good three hours. He’s a very good bed buddy.

For lunch, I had a vegetable paratha- Indian flatbread made with whole wheat flour, spices and vegetables.

Using these two chutneys…

I took my dad’s suggestion and topped the paratha with Greek yogurt, chutney and a Pink lady apple.

HOLY freaking YUM! When the bread was all used up, I mixed the extra apple with chutney (that’s fresh-made below) into the rest of the yogurt. I have to do this more often. The best combination was a little mango and a lot of tamarind. So good.

For dessert I had frozen Thin Mints! I love Girl Scout season.

My parents and I met for dinner at our favorite Japanese restaurant. My mom and I got there first and split some hot sake.

We also got some edamame… leaving some for my dad was a bit of a struggle.

I started with miso soup…

And though I tried to break from my ways, I ended up ordering my usual bento box with salad, tempura, a California roll and tuna/salmon sashimi. It’s my comfort food, what can I say?

We made a pit stop on the way home for some Edy’s Slow Churned Vanilla Bean Ice Cream (which now costs EIGHT DOLLARS. $8!) and topped it with Stonewall Kitchen’s Bittersweet Chocolate Sauce and pecans. Divine. My mom and I were just saying that Stonewall Kitchen can do no wrong… everything they turn out is perfect!

We all fell asleep watching Masterpiece Theater (yes, yes, shush) so I’m going to bed before I perk up again. Hope you’re having a great start to the weekend!
